To prove its new app was the fastest way to provide gas Sunoco held a Guinness World Records title event in Ozone Park complete with a NASCAR pit crew, pace car, spotters and Lab Counter Board, according to the gas company.
The record-setting event took place at the Sunoco gas station located at 134-45 Cross Bay Blvd. on Oct. 27, and drivers that had half a tank or less were able to participate in the event to get free gas while using the app, according to the company.
A grand total of 148 vehicles received free gas from 12 pumps with the help of NASCAR pit crew member John Gianninoto who acted as the pumper for each car, as spotters took their places guiding motorists to the pump in one hour, according to Sunoco.
“We’re thrilled to have set a new Guinness World Record title,” said Sandy Deiters, Senior Marketing Director at Sunoco LP. “The app is free to use and customers can just tap, pump and go – there’s minimal waiting and plenty of additional benefits like digital receipts and location-specific offers.”
Sunoco and John Gianninoto were awarded by a Guinness Worlds Record adjudicator the title for “Most Vehicles Refueled in One Hour.”
The app is available for iOS and Android, and enables customers to tap, pump and go while fueling up, resulting in less waiting times at the gas station and offers location-specific offers, according to Sunoco. Users can use the app to search for a location, link to participating grocery rewards, connect to favorite locations and view promos or offers at nearby stores throughout thousands of spots throughout the U.S.
Sunoco has approximately 9,900 convenience stores, independent dealers, commercial customers and distributors in more than 30 states and is rapidly adding its different locations to the app each day, according to the motor fuel company.
“The app makes life easier for the people fueling up their cars, and it also helps our partners like the owner of this station to offer unique specials at their locations too,” said Dieters.
