74-Year-Old Pedestrian Killed Crossing the Street in Corona: NYPD

A 74-year-old woman was killed last month after she was hit by a car when crossing the street in Corona, according to the NYPD.

Corona resident Luz Ortega was crossing 49th Avenue midblock on Monday, Sept. 16 at around 7:30 a.m. when she was fatally hit by a Chevrolet Tahoe, police said.

A 44-year-old man was driving on 49th Avenue towards 104th Street when he hit Ortega and knocked her to the ground.

Ortega suffered trauma to the head as a result of the collision and was transported to NYC Health & Hospitals/Elmhurst where she was pronounced dead four days later on Sept. 20.

The driver remained at the scene following the collision and police have made no arrests.
