A Canadian-based puppetry and theater company will be bringing its new show, “Pomelo,” to Flushing Town Hall this weekend.
The Ombres Folles company from Montreal was founded in 2005 and has created eight shows and given nearly 550 performances in Canada, the United States, France, Serbia and Ukraine.
“Pomelo” is a unique show that does not have any dialogue and uses puppets, shadow theater and live music to tell the story of a tiny pink elephant who was born under a dandelion in a garden and how he discovers the world around him and the changing of the seasons.
Main character Pomelo experiences shock at the arrival of autumn and winter and then falls in love with his garden in spring, representing how children can enjoy the change in seasons this winter.
The show is recommended for children ages 3 and up and is based on the book “Pomelo est amoureux” by author Ramona Badescu and illustrator Benjamin Chaud.
Executive and Artistic Director of Flushing Town Hall Ellen Kodadek said she is delighted to welcome back the International touring artists.
“Adults and children alike will be charmed by tiny Pomelo and his explorations and discoveries,” Kodadek said. “This wordless piece is enchanting for all! It’s been proven time and time again that bringing children to the theater, whether through a school performance or for the whole family to enjoy together, powerfully inspires children’s life-long creativity, self-confidence and appreciation for others.”
The production will put on two performances for school audiences, first at 10 a.m. on Dec. 1, with another at 11:30 a.m. on Dec. 2. There will also be workshops taking place with the cast and crew at 11 a.m. on both days.
Tickets for the show are $15 for adults who are members of Flushing Town Hall, $12 for non-members and $8 for all children. Tickets for the workshop are $4 for members and $5 for non-members.
