Flier for the upcoming Douglaston Village Winter Festival on Dec. 15.

Look no further than Douglaston for a day of free winter festivities next week.

On Saturday, Dec. 15 from 12 to 5 p.m., the Douglaston Village Winter Festival will be back for the holiday season. The second annual festival will take place at the Douglaston Station Plaza, next to the LIRR station at 235th Street and 41st Avenue.

Visitors can enjoy ice skating at the holiday ice rink, carnival rides, live music and dance performances and other free, family-friendly activities in the village square. Holiday gifts will also be available for purchase from local vendors and fifth-grade student fundraisers.

The event will feature an ugly Christmas sweater contest and awards will be given out to the dogs and their owners with the “worst” sweaters.

Councilman Paul Vallone, Assemblyman Ed Braunstein and Senator-elect John Liu are slated to be at the festival according to Rebecca Gellos, the new executive director for the Douglaston Local Development Corporation.

The Douglaston LDC is a nonprofit organization that was founded in 2010 by area residents, merchants and stakeholders to “preserve and protect the unique historical and aesthetic qualities of the Douglaston Village commercial district.

This year, the winter festival will be hosted by the Douglaston LDC in cooperation with the Douglaston Village Chamber of Commerce and P.S. 98. Other participants include the Douglas Manor Environmental Organization, the Douglaston Little Neck Historical Society, Udalls Cove Preservation Committee, Douglaston Garden Club, APEC and local Churches.
