Conn. man drove through LIC stop sign: DA

LONG ISLAND CITY — A 29-year-old Connecticut man was arrested earlier this month on drunk driving charges after he allegedly drove through a stop sign near the Queens Midtown Tunnel in Long Island City, the Queens district attorney said.

Paul Vadassery, of New Rochelle, was arraigned before Queens Criminal Court Judge Ira Margolis on charges of operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol and failing to stop for a stop sign and released on his own recognizance, Queens DA Richard Brown said. He will return to court Nov. 24, he said.

On Oct. 13, the defendant allegedly failed to stop for a stop sign at the intersection of the entrance ramp to the Queens Midtown Tunnel and Borden Avenue in Long Island City, the DA said.

Police allegedly found Vadassery to be intoxicated, exhibiting slurred speech, unsteadiness on his feet and having bloodshot, watery eyes, the DA said. According to the criminal complaint, the defendant told police that he smoked “four or five joints and drank cocaine mixed with juice.”
