TD Bank gives back to community groups

Committed to giving back to the communities, TD Bank unveiled its first green store at 214-32 Jamaica Avenue in Queens Village and marked the event, they presented $6,000 in donations to several local non-profit organizations.

The Greater Bethel Community Development Corporation and Lifeline Center for Child Development received a $500 grant.

The Community Environmental Center, Inc. received a $5,000 grant. The donation will allow CEC to perform home energy audits in Queens, a step that will make one’s home more energy efficient.

“TD Bank’s commitment to green building standards for its branches is a great step,” said Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg at the opening on April 28. “The energy used in buildings accounts for 75 percent of New York City’s carbon footprint. That’s why we’ve focused on efforts such as our Greener, Greater Buildings laws, which will save money, reduce energy consumption, and lower our carbon footprint.

Many local residents attended the grand opening celebration, and were treated with free food, games, prizes and a tour through the green building and an explanation of many of its features.
