COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT: Rami Nuseir is currently the Founder and Director of the American Mideast Leadership Network, a nonprofit organization that was established to enhance cultural, economic, and political understanding between anyone who is interested in the Middle East and in the United States. He was the head Arab Outreach coordinator, head Legal Counsel for the Arab American Family Support Center and the Elective Director of Ishmael and Isaac. Recently he was recognized for his outstanding service and leadership among the Arab-American community by being awarded the 114th Civilian Observation Patrol Peter F. Vallone Jr. Award for going above and beyond in his efforts to improve the quality of life in the Astoria community.
PERSONAL: Nuseir has received an undergraduate degree in law from the University of Herefordshire in England, a master’s degree in international comparative law from the University of San Diego, and most recently a master’s degree in intellectual property from the Benjamin Cardozo School of Law in New York City.
In the little free time he does have, Nuseir likes to spend time with friends and enjoys going to the city and getting out in the fresh outdoors.
OCCUPATION: Nuseir was a banking litigation attorney in Haifa, Israel and an adjunct contract and constitutional law professor at the Baruch College Law and Paralegal Program in New York City. He is currently a lawyer.
BIGGEST CHALLENGE: “I think my biggest challenge is trying to get new immigrants to understand why we give back. Sometimes, they don’t understand why anyone would do something for someone else without getting paid for it.”
FAVORITE MEMORY: “My favorite memory is having my family come to see me graduate law school. They live far away in Palestine, so having them come to see me really was an honor. It was a unique and important moment that I will never forget.”
INSPIRATION: Rami’s true inspiration is seeing tangible results in the people he is working so hard to educate. “Seeing a difference in the community and getting supporters to understand why we have to give back is the fuel to my engine.”
