Fatal Accidents In Sunnyside, Ozone Park
In less than an hour, two people lost their lives after being struck by vehicles in separate accidents on the Woodside/Sunnyside border and in Ozone Park early on Sunday morning, May 13, according to police.
Law enforcement sources said an allegedly drunk driver lost control of his vehicle and ran down a 24-yearold man who was standing on the sidewalk at the corner of Greenpoint Avenue and 46th Street at around 2:35 a.m. Sunday.
The driver of the vehicle, identified by police as 58-year-old Sayesh Avedis of Elmira Loop in the Starrett City section of Brooklyn, was taken into custody by 108th Precinct officers and later charged with manslaughter and other related charged.
Approximately 35 minutes later, authorities stated, a Woodhaven man was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver as he attempted to cross Liberty Avenue in Ozone Park.
Reportedly, the suspect behind the second accident remains at large as of press time.
Regarding the Woodside/Sunnyside accident, police said the 24-yearold male victim-whose identity was not disclosed-was waiting with a friend for a cab at the intersection of Greenpoint Avenue and 46th Street.
At around 2:35 a.m., police said, a gray 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis allegedly operated Avedis was traveling westbound on Greenpoint Avenue when it suddenly swerved and mounted the sidewalk, striking the victim in the process.
Avedis’ ride reportedly came to a stop after crashing into several parked vehicles.
Members of the 108th Precinct and EMS units responded to the scene. The 24-year-old man was brought by paramedics to Elmhurst Hospital Center, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Following an investigation, Avedis was taken into custody by police and charged with manslaughter, vehicular manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide and DWI, law enforcement sources said.
The Ozone Park accident took place at around 3:10 a.m. at the intersection of Liberty Avenue and 108th Street, law enforcement sources said.
According to information obtained by police, the victim-identified as 47-year-old Rohan Singh of 76th Street in Woodhaven-was at- tempting to cross Liberty Avenue when he was struck an unidentified vehicle traveling eastbound on the roadway.
Despite hitting the man, authorities said, the vehicle did not stop and sped away from the scene.
Members of the 106th Precinct and EMS units responded to the accident. Singh was transported to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
As of press time, no arrests have been made, and the inquiry by the 106th Precinct Detective Squad and the NYPD Accident Investigation Squad is ongoing, police said.

In a third fatal vehicular accident in Queens this past week, a male bicyclist died after he collided with a car along Roosevelt Avenue near Citi Field in Flushing last Friday afternoon, May 11, police reported.
The identity of the victim-a Hispanic male who was believed to have been in his 40s-was not disclosed by police pending family notification.
Law enforcement sources said the accident occurred at around 5:45 p.m. last Friday in the vicinity of Roosevelt Avenue and 126th Street.
According to information obtained by police, the male biker was riding westbound along Roosevelt Avenue when a gray 2003 Nissan Altima sedan, operated by a 50-year-old woman, collided with him.
Following the accident, authorities said, the sedan’s driver stopped and remained at the scene.
Officers from the 110th Precinct and EMS units responded to the scene. The bicyclist, who suffered severe head trauma, was pronounced dead at the location by paramedics.
No charges were filed against the driver and no criminality is suspected, according to NYPD sources.
The ongoing inquiry is being conducted by the NYPD Accident Investigation Squad, police said.
