Super Bowl fever is in the air.

Bars, restaurants and hotels around Queens have their deals and specials set for the big game, and there have been special events in the city and the borough featuring football players.

“You can feel it,” said Fox 5 sports anchor Duke Castiglione, the host of “Sports Extra,” who talked to The Courier about the game. “As the week goes on, the excitement is building.”

Super Bowl XLVIII will be the first time the New York-New Jersey area hosts the big game. It is also the first outdoor cold-weather Super Bowl. But despite the weather, which has been frigid at best lately, fans are just excited for the biggest event in football.

“There are events everywhere. That what makes this unique,” Castiglione said. “Everyone can share in this experience. The Super Bowl is just so much more than just a game.”

Castiglione didn’t say who he thought would win the game between the Denver Broncos and the Seattle Seahawks, but he believes that the teams will have a good match.

“I think these two teams are evenly matched,” Castiglione said. “We’ve been blessed the last 10 to 15 years with great Super Bowls and I think we will get another one this week.”

Castiglione also said that he thinks the success of this Super Bowl will be historic, opening the door for other cold-weather cities to host the game.

Super Bowl XLVIII will air on Fox on Sunday, Feb. 2 at 6:30 p.m.
