Academy Squad Wins USSL Northeast Title

The Blau Weiss Gottschee 1998 academy team won the United States Soccer League Northeast Championship by beating the Red Bulls in the final 2-1. To reach the championship game, the boys won against Met Oval and Albertson academies.

The BlauWeiss Gottschee (BWG) 1998 Academy team won the USSL Northeast Championship by beating the Red Bulls in the final 2-1. Blau Weiss Gottschee (BWG) won the United States Soccer League Northeast Championship, the club announced.

On their way to the final, the BWG boys tied DC United 2-2 and beat the Colorado Rapids 3-1.

For a small club from Queens, their coaches were impressed the players were poised against three Major League Soccer academies and won versus some of the best teams in the country.

In Sunday’s last Cosmopolitan Junior Soccer League game of the season, the Gottschee U-9 White 2004 team fought a good fight against a strong GJOAteam, coaches said. Having led most of the game, Gottschee fell 3-4, with GJOA scoring two goals in the final 10 minutes.

The U-9 Royals tied against Chernomorets 1-1. The only goal of the was game scored by Dylan Gunning and assisted by Fernando Urgilez. Each coach said it was an energetic game, with chances for either side on both sides of the pitch.
