Police confirmed that 32 attendees at this past weekend’s Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC) near Citi Field stadium were arrested on narcotics-related charges.
NYPD reported 16 arrests made on Saturday and 16 on Sunday during a two-day electronic dance music event. Arrested festivalgoers were charged with criminal possession of controlled substance, presumably MDMA.
Giant festival held on May 14 and 15 took over the adjacent lot to Citi Field stadium in Flushing Meadows Corona Park. According to the event’s Facebook page, more than 16,000 people attended.
Originating in Las Vegas, EDC belongs to the nation’s largest music festivals and North America’s largest dance music events, according to EDC Facebook page.
The festival usually attracts electronic dance music fans with the world’s most renowned DJ names such as Dash Berlin or Alison Wonderland combined with immersive experiences of art and sound.
Frequent use of drugs such as MDMA at the Electric Daisy Carnival event has lead to several deaths in the past.
