A 22-year-old man was convicted of attempted murder, assault and criminal possession of a weapon for shooting at police officers and a civilian in Elmhurst in 2014.
On June 21, 2014 at about 1:45 a.m. Corona resident Christian Mosquera shot at a man on Lamont Avenue in Elmhurst. Officers order Mosquera to drop the weapon but he turned toward the police officers and fired one round before fleeing the scene.
Officers recovered a .22 caliber Ruger Mark long-arm pistol from the ground. Mosquera, a member of the gang Any Body Killers, fled Queens and was caught one week later in Union City, New Jersey.
The defendant was found guilty of second-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault and second- and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He will be sentenced on Nov. 7 and he faces up to 40 years in prison.
“Every day police officers in this city risk their lives serving and protecting New York City’s resident and visitors,” District Attorney Richard A. Brown said. “A jury has spoken and the defendant will be sentenced to a very long term behind bars.”
