I read the Queens Weekly dated July 9, 2017, and I was taken aback by the article with the headline “CB7 says city, Katz bailed on Willets Pt meeting.”
In the second paragraph, the reporter wrote: “The board sent a letter condemning Queens Borough President Melinda Katz and the EDC for not showing up to the latest Willets Point Quarterly Committee Meeting.”
Community Board 7 did not condemn the Queens borough president, and to be clear, her office has always provided support on the Willets Point developments. In our letter, we focused on the lack of participation and cooperation by NYC EDC and the mayor’s office at these meetings and how our relationship with these two agencies has deteriorated.
The borough president is the higher authority for Community board representation to city agencies. Therefore, we included the Queens borough president as an addressee on our letter to NYC EDC for her assistance. The reporter never contacted me, nor our office, to discuss our letter referenced in her articles.
