Last week GallopNYC’s Forest Hills facility got a major facelift thanks to help from the volunteers at The Home Depot Foundation who helped renovate the barn for better accessibility.

Volunteers worked an entire day on Sept. 12 to help with several projects to improve GallopNYC’s facility to better serve their mission of providing therapeutic horsemanship to children and adults with disabilities and special needs, at-risk youth, as well as veterans.

The projects in which the volunteers gave assistance included making improvements to the stable, demolition in preparation for the renovations, cleaning the arena area, landscaping, painting and cleaning up the debris from the projects.

“Home Depot volunteers have helped GallopNYC immeasurably, and Tuesday was no exception,” said Alicia Kershaw, executive director of GallopNYC. “We needed a good team to help renovate our Forest Hills barn to make it more accessible and we got that team with Home Depot! We hope they had fun, too.”

This project with GallopNYC is part of The Home Depot’s annual “Celebration of Service” campaign which helps to improve the homes and lives of U.S. military veterans and their families. Since 2011, The Home Depot Foundation has invested nearly $213 million in veteran-related projects, which is part of the foundation’s $250,000,000 pledge to veteran-related causes by 2020.
