New Delta routes from JFK Airport Delta Air Lines is offering customers a new way to reach Lagos, Nigeria, beginning March 24, 2018, via new service from the airline’s New York-JFK hub. Flights will operate three times weekly, complementing the existing four-times-weekly service from Atlanta. This new route to the African continent joins existing service from JFK to Dakar and Accra, and follows new trans-Atlantic routes to Lisbon, Berlin and Glasgow that began this spring

Due to the continued boycott Qatar cannot fly to the lucrative markets of Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates, Qatar bought a 9.61 percent stake in Hong Kong’s Cathay Pacific Airways last year to broaden its reach and increase traffic through its Doha hub. So perhaps this new investment will also assist in reaching those markets.

Alaska Airlines and fashion designer Luly Yang debuted a modern, West Coast-inspired, custom-designed uniform collection which has been more than two years in the making, will clad 19,000 Alaska, Virgin America and Horizon Air uniformed employees starting in late 2019. “Luly’s designs perfectly capture our fresh, West Coast vibe and we’re absolutely thrilled with the collection,” said Sangita Woerner, Alaska Airlines’ vice president of marketing.

WOW airlines is scheduled to begin service from Terminal One at JFK T1 in Summer 2018 in addition to currently flying out of Newark. WOW air is an Icelandic low-cost carrier focusing on transatlantic flights. The airline is headquartered in Reykjavík and based at Keflavík International Airport.

Flight DY7014 from New York JFK to London Gatwick on Monday, January 15, 2018 completed the full duration of the flight in 5 hours and 13 minutes – the fastest transatlantic flight recorded on a subsonic commercial aircraft. The previous record was 5 hours and 16 minutes. The flight carrying 284 passengers departed New York at 11:44 am and arrived at London at 9:57 pm – 53 minutes early.

A deadly assault on the Hotel Intercontinental in Kabul caused suspension of flights for KAM Air with the killing of 14 people and 5 of its foreign pilots. KAM operates scheduled domestic passenger services and regional international services through Kabul International Airport.

BTS Statistics Releases: November 2017 Passenger Airline Employment Data
U.S. scheduled passenger airlines employed 3.3 percent more workers in November 2017 than in November 2016, reaching 429,946 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees, the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) reported today. November was the 49th consecutive month that U.S. scheduled passenger airline FTEs exceeded the same month of the previous year (Tables 1, 2, 3).
Price drop
The average domestic air fare decreased to $336 in the third quarter of 2017, the lowest inflation-adjusted quarterly fare in 23 years of air fare records the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) reported. The previous low quarter since BTS began collecting air fare data in 1995 was $346 in the second quarter of 2009.
