Firefighters battled 3-alarm inferno at College Point store that left one person seriously injured

The FDNY battled a major fire in a College Point building that left one person seriously injured on Monday morning.

According to the FDNY, a call came in at 7:40 a.m. on Jan. 21 regarding a three-alarm fire at Central Home Care, located at 128-20 14th Ave. The department deployed 33 units and 138 firefighters and EMS personnel to the scene, where they found the fire in the basement of the commercial building.

One person was pulled from the basement and transported to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi in the Bronx in critical condition. Firefighters have since extinguished the fire, but are remaining on scene.

Three firefighters sustained non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

State Senator John Liu came to the scene and thanked the FDNY and other essential groups for their hard work during the harsh weather.
