Police from the 104th Precinct are searching for the thief who stole $2,500 worth of merchandise from a Foot Locker in Glendale last month.
According to police, the unidentified thief walked into the Foot Locker, located within the Shops at Atlas Park at on 80-28 Cooper Ave., at approximately 12 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 13. The suspect then proceeded to remove various items from the store without paying and fled the scene, according to authorities.
No arrests have been made at this time and police are continuing to investigate the incident.
The unidentified suspect was last seen wearing all black clothing and a fitted hat. Police shared a photo of the thief, who was captured on surveillance tape inside of the store.
Foot Locker stores have been targeted before, and this location is no different. In 2018, a pair of criminals threatened employees with pepper spray while removing an estimated $1,400 in clothing and apparel.
“We can confirm the unfortunate incident that occurred at our Atlas Park store in Glendale, NY, and that our team members are safe,” Foot Locker Corporate Communications shared in a statement with QNS. “The safety of our team and that of customers remains our number one priority and we are taking proper precautions.”
The company shares a similar battle with retail theft overall this year like many retailers across the state. In Queens, retail theft complaints more than doubled from 2018 through 2022, Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz said in a press conference with Mayor Eric Adams on combating retail crime in May.
