Police have made an arrest in connection with a vicious robbery on board an M train in Ridgewood this past weekend in which a 66-year-old man was seriously beaten.
Authorities said the attack took place at midnight on Sunday, Oct. 9, on board a Manhattan-bound M train before it arrived at the Myrtle-Wyckoff Avenues station on the Ridgewood/Bushwick border.
According to police, the 66-year-old male victim was approached by the suspect — identified as Troy Sales, 26, of Brooklyn — who knocked him to the floor of the car.
Sales allegedly proceeded to punch and kick the man; the video, taken on an eyewitness’ cellphone, showed the victim struggling with the suspect, who grabbed him by the collar and shook him.
Police said Sales managed to take the victim’s cellphone and wallet, which contained $20 in cash and a credit card. The video showed the crook opening the wallet and looking through it before placing it in his pocket. The suspect exited the train upon arrival at Myrtle-Wyckoff Avenues.
Officers from the 83rd Precinct and the NYPD Transit Bureau responded to the incident. The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment of injuries including lacerations to his face and a broken rib; he is listed in serious but stable condition.
Following an investigation, police took Sales into custody on Tuesday and charged him with robbery.
