After several recent deaths on subway station tracks, one heroic Astoria man saved an elderly stranger from a similar fate.
According to ABC New York, 33-year-old Ramiro Ocasio was waiting for a Queens-bound train at the 59th Street-Lexington Avenue station in Manhattan Friday afternoon when he saw a man crawling in the middle of the tracks.
“I’m looking him looking to see if the train is coming, looking at him, and I’m like this is just not happening to me. It can’t happen in front of my eyes,” Ocasio told ABC New York.
Ocasio jumped onto the tracks and threw the stranded straphanger, who wasn’t strong enough to hoist himself up, back onto the platform. Four to five people helped Ocasio get off the tracks just seconds before a Q train entered the station.
