A scholarship opportunity is available now to College Point students heading to college next year.
The Karl A. Spahlinger Jr. Scholarship Fund, distributed by the One Point of Light Foundation, was established in 2015 to provide financial assistance to students from College Point. The one-year scholarships will provide up to $2,500 to help cover the cost of tuition, fees and room and board for up to four students.
Interested students must complete and submit a Scholarship Application by April 16 at 5 p.m. A copy of the application can be downloaded here.
Applicants must have permanent residence status in College Point and have been accepted as a full-time student at a college, university or trade school program for the upcoming academic year.
Scholarships will be awarded based on academic merit and financial need and may be renewed on an annual basis. Preference will be given to applicants studying engineering or an animal-related field.
For more information, contact Lynne Serpe at lynneserpe.nyc[at]gmail.com with “Scholarship” in the subject header. A full list of applicant criteria can be found here. Applicants will be notified if they have been awarded a scholarship by June 30.
Scholarship funds are sent directly to the recipient’s school and awarded without regard to race, color, ethnicity, gender or sexual orientation. Scholarships may be renewed provided funds are available and the recipient meets the outlined requirements.
