Are you a College Point local looking to change the area for the better?
The One Point of Light Foundation is looking to award resident-led community groups with microgrants of $500 up to $2,500. Groups can apply until Oct. 15.
Acceptable applicants include block associations, civic, community or student groups, Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) and sports leagues and may range from long standing to newly established.
Funding should be used to work on community and school projects that are clear and thoughtful, contribute to bringing neighbors together and result in concrete improvements in College Point. Preference will be given to groups working on projects pertaining to education or animal rights and welfare.
Grants are not offered to for-profit projects, businesses, organizations with paid staff, partisan organizations, groups with an annual budget of greater than $100,000 and religion-based groups.
Interested organizations may apply by filling out an application (found here) and emailing it as a PDF to Grant Officer Lynne Serpe at lynnerpe.nyc[at]gmail.com. The email must have “College Point Community Fund” typed into the subject header and be sent no later than 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 15.
Applicants will be notified of grant decisions by late November and winning organizations will be mailed a check by the end of 2017. Grants are awarded through the foundation’s Karl Spahlinger, Jr. College Point Community Fund.
